In a forgotten area of the city, the Auburn and Gresham neighborhood, there’s a major transformation taking place.

On Tuesday afternoon Famed Chicago Activist Ja’Mal D. Green unveiled the ‘Majostee All Stars’ Youth Center. Myself  along with other members of the media, were invited out and given a personal tour just before this big announcement.

The Majostee All Stars youth center will be housed in what was once an old bank, and recently a church. Just like the community itself this old forgotten building built back in 1940, 77 years ago, located at 7919 S. Ashland, Chicago, will get another opportunity to service the community and will give at risk Youth a second chance too.

Ja’Ma,l who is only 21, had been talking about this idea for a long time. It was his dream. He has pulled it off along with the help of many people from the community and with the higher ranks of the city.  From Father Michael Pfleger , David Doiq, neighborhood initiates, Alderman Howard Brookins  and many more who were all on hand to announce to the community and entire city ‘a new youth center has arrived’ with a promise to educate and prepare the underserved youth of this forgotten neighborhood. There is a bright future. This won’t just be any youth center but a valuable resource to the community.
