Moving Around with Deborah

9.8.2022

Dun Dun Dun Dun It’s Football Season.  The game of Football seems to date back as far as 2500 BC when it is said the Greeks, Egyptians, Chinese and Romans played games involving the use of their feet and a ball. Not much has changed or has it.  Ok, this is not a sports column, and I am not a sportswriter, but I’ve become more aware of this activity known as Football.  Becoming knowledgeable about the rules, scoring and the excitement of traveling with the fans, especially Tailgating.  I attended my first tailgating event in Kalamazoo Michigan at Western Michigan University.  I loved it.  I even attended the game and found myself losing my voice by hollering at the team and referees.

It was then my interest in football went beyond ‘why are these people running into each other intentionally?’ So, you ask why I am, a travel advisor, talking about sports, because it has become one of the most travels attended events in the world. Millions of folks travel to sporting events every season and for many different sports.  You’ve got groups traveling for professional, minor, collegiate, high school and younger I.E., pony league. They travel near and far. Both in and out of the country for regular games and championships.

We plan at the beginning of the season to travel with our favorite teams. Even the Super Bowl committee plans years in advance as to where the game will be played even though it is not known who the teams are to play. It is already known that the Super Bowl is Sunday 2.12.2023 in Arizona at the State Farm Statum.  If you want to attend or just be in the area, now is the time to make your travel plans and secure your housing for your stay.  It’s not too early to book your room or BnB. By the way Valentine Day is Tuesday 2.14.2023 so make a week or 2 of your stay.  We’ll all be happy.

Step into the next season as you ‘Move Around with Deborah’ It’s Labor Day Holiday weekend.  How did you spend it?  Are you back to travel? Millions of travelers were out and about this last holiday of the summer and I must say it’s like we did not miss a beat.  One thing you must always pack is your patience. Never leave home without it. Can we still wear white after Labor Day?  Yes, you wear what you want to wear.  What do you wear to the White Parties that happen any time of the year? Here’s a reminder, Beginning May 3, 2023, every air traveler 18 years of age and older will need a REAL ID-compliant driver’s license, state-issued enhanced driver’s license, (no matter what state you live in), or another acceptable form of ID (is passport) to fly within the United States.

IT’S THE LAW
Passed by Congress in 2005, the REAL ID Act enacted the 9/11 Commission’s recommendation that the federal government “set standards for the issuance of sources of identification, such as driver’s licenses.” The Act and implementing regulations establish minimum security standards for state-issued driver’s licenses and identification cards and prohibit federal agencies, like TSA, from accepting licenses and identification cards from states that do not meet these standards for official purposes, such as getting through the airport security checkpoint to board a plane. The mandate has been delayed several times but now, May 3, 2023, is the current deadline. Refer to www.tsa.gov
