June 14th 2021, Monday morning in Downtown Chicago, Mayor Lori E Lighfoot joined other elected officials to kick off the Juneteenth holiday by raising the flag for the first time at Daley Plaza. We now have a holiday that we all can celebrate as a nation. Mayor Lori Lighfoot announced that Juneteenth would be a recognized holiday in the City of Chicago, before the entire United States Senate voted for it to become a national holiday. Then shortly afterwards, Governor Pritizer made his announcement about It becoming a national holiday. Then on Saturday morning, Mayor Lori Lightfoot attended a ribbon cutting at Soul Veg City 203 east 75th street to kick off her Juneteenth events on Juneteenth.
