SPRINGFIELD, IL — Two men were killed and a woman was critically injured in a shooting at the Bunn-O-Matic warehouse in Springfield Friday morning, police said. Both men were shot inside the facility, while police found the woman in the parking lot.

Police identified the accused shooter as Michael L. Collins, 48, of Springfield. He was found dead in his truck in Morgan County around 1:49 p.m., police said. Collins and the people he is accused of shooting were all employees of Bunn-O-Matic, which primarily manufactures coffee makers and other food service equipment.

According to Springfield Police Chief Kenny Winslow, a 911 caller reported the shooting at 11:03 a.m., and the first officer arrived at the scene about a minute later.

Winslow said the men killed were in their 20s and 60s, while the woman who was shot is in her 50s. “We ask that you keep the victims of this horrific crime and their family in your thoughts and prayers, along with our community members and the employees of Bunn,” Winslow said. According to police radio traffic, SWAT units this morning cleared several buildings at the site, located at 1400 Adlai Stevenson Drive. Police called it a “very large facility.” Residents in the area said on Facebook that police had asked them to stay inside their houses and lock their doors as officers searched for the shooter earlier in the day.

“It’s doubtful the suspect is still at the scene, but we are acting as if,” Cmdr. Brian Oakes said previously. Employees who were evacuated after the shooting can reunite with family members at the parking lot of Magro’s Meat, 3150 Stanton St., police said. The general public should continue to avoid the area. Police will hold a news conference with further updates about the shooting at 6 p.m.
