Self-Analysis Based on Nguzo Saba (7 Principles of Afrikan Living) 
Afrika was the seat of civilization and every major culture came out of Afrika
Swahili pronunciations:  i as “ee,” u as “oo”
 
  1. Have I used Umoja-Unity?  Yes. I have always striven to unite the Black community, the disability community, the senior community and youth for the common well-being. I have also begun.  I work in unity with CDAC (Chicago Disability Activism Collective), ADAPT, Access Living, the Alliance for Community Services, and ATU 241. I am in the process with others to  unify drivers and riders from CTA and para-transit.
  2. Kujichagulia – Self-Determination? yes, since the inception of  BNICEH and IMPRUVE, I have worked with constituents to determine for ourselves how we are to be governed by Human service agencies, define ourselves and our families,  and  how we are to be served by public transit, medical transit, taxi service,  and eventually own our own para-transit.
  3. Ujima – Collective Work and Responsibility?  Yes. I take responsibility for holding the organization accountable and relevant.  I do collective work often hands-on  with many projects in the community and the organization 
  4. Ujamaa – Cooperative Economics.  Yes. I have pooled my resources and worked to have our own business(es) and support those who support us
  5. Nia – Purpose. Yes, I know my purpose. I am mindful of my purpose and the purpose of BNICEH-IMPRUVE and remind directors, members and constituents constantly. I am not here by accident or mistake.
  6. Kuumba – Creativity?  Yes. I am an artist. I make masks and jewelry.  I have painted.  I have made jewelry and donated for auction to raise funds for BNICEH-IMPRUVE. I have built and moderated IMPRUVE’s blogs and websites. I have donated my business, IT and graphic design skills to teach, create brochure for our Para-transit Minuteman Campaign, written organizer and administrative assistant/intern job descriptions.  I helped to incorporate both organizations an
  7. Imani -Faith? Yes. I have faith in the Most High with no shame or hesitation. I have faith in our ability to run our own para-transit, bring social justice to our communities and human services, and I participate in a community feast with others during special events such as Kwanzaa, Mardi Gras and Black History Month
