Ben Carson was born 09-18-51 in Detroit, Mi.  Ben CarsonFrom the age  of 10 he was raised by a single mother.  He began having serious disciplinary problems and was headed for serious trouble, so his mother required him to read 2 books a week for punishment. That punishment was his turning point.  Through reading, he found he could “lose” himself and go “anywhere”.  He became fascinated with books. Eventually, he decided he wanted to become a brain surgeon.

He became the first surgeon to separate conjoined twins.  The twins were conjoined at the head.  Both survived.  The surgery was performed at Johns Hopkins Hospital, where Carson was Head of Neurosurgery for many years before he retired.   During his career, he performed many brain surgeries and he says he “always asked GOD to guide his hands.

During his career, Dr Carson was also a professor of neurosurgery, oncology, plastic surgery, and pediatrics.

In 2008 he was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by George Bush.  This is the Nation’s highest civilian honor.  In addition, Carson was awarded 38 honorary metal citations.

Dr Carson has written several books:

-American the Beautiful

-Think Big

-Gifted Hands, the Ben Carson Story

-One Nation, What Can We Do to Save America’s Future

-Take the Risks, Learning to Identify, choose, and live with acceptable risks

-A Touch of Heaven

Currently, there is a petition to draft Dr Carson for President in 2016.  That website is www.runbenrun.org. Dr Carson’s website is www.realbencarson.com.
