Washington, DC—April 29, 2020— On Thursday, April 30, 2020 from 10:45 AM to 3 PM EST, Walker’s Legacy is proud to present Reclaiming Your Wealth: A Financial Empowerment Digital Summit—a timely discussion on financial preparedness in honor of the close of April, which is Financial Awareness Month.

It is estimated that COVID-19 will have residual impacts on wealth depreciation within communities of color across the nation—impacting both business, personal, and family wealth. According to the Brookings Institution, the negative implications of our economy come atop staggering racial wealth disparities which have evidenced $171,000 as the net worth of a typical white family against $17,150 the net worth of a Black family in 2016—a nearly ten-fold gap. Further, nearly 22 million Americans have filed for unemployment and recent U.S. unemployment figures show that communities of color were disproportionately impacted by job losses in March.

The COVID-19 pandemic has demonstrated the significant need for financial preparedness, literacy, investment, and strategy to better navigate our ever-changing economic landscape. The summit will provide informative content on investing and savings strategies in the middle of a crisis, the CARES ACT funding for those who are currently unemployed, and cryptocurrency as an investment strategy.

The digital summit will highlight important discussion topics including:

11 AM | “Unemployment 101: What To Do If You Get Laid Off…”

Jessica N. Childress, Esq., Founder, The Childress Firm PLLC

12 PM | “It’s Never Too Late to Invest”

Dominique Broadway, CEO & Founder, CEO & Personal Finance Expert, De-mys-ti-fied

1 PM | “Cryptocurrency: The Digital Revolution”

Isaiah Jackson, Author of “Bitcoin and Black America”

2 PM | “Financial Savings During a Pandemic”

Dr. Cozette M. White, Author and nationally recognized tax accountant & strategist

“We are in unprecedented times.  Now more than ever intentional business and financial focused programming is needed,” said Natalie Madeira Cofield, Founder & CEO of Walker’s Legacy. “The Reclaiming Your Wealth Summit is about helping black and brown communities understand their options, ahead of time in an effort to make the soundest financial decisions for their futures. We simply cannot afford to lose an entire generation of wealth as a result of this pandemic.”
